How to root your Motorola MOTO X

This page is designed to help you understand some of the processes involved in rooting and modding your motorola moto X

How to enter stock android recovery.  
1. power off the device or if boot looping hold power button for 20 seconds to turn it off.
2. press and hold both volume up and down then hold power also for 3 seconds then release all three buttons
3. on this screen press volume down until you highlight recovery then press volume up to select
4. on the android guy screen again press and hold both volume buttons for 5 seconds then press power once and you will be in stock android recovery on the moto x
If you are able to unlock the bootloader on the motorola moto x then you have one awesome device. You might want to check out Jcase app Sunshine it may be able to unlock your bootloader

  1. i can not unlock my XT1060 🙁 is there any way out i cant even downgrade it to kitkat i tried following commands but it also failed :/

    check the recovery command

  2. Will these procedures work with the Moto X 2nd Gen? It’s currently running Android 5.1 with Security Patch level 2016-08-01.

    I am using moto X (international variant) with android version (4.4.4) . so i tried root it but it seems doesn’t working.while flashing recovery then it saying that variable not supported.so can please help me soon.
